Tomb Raider Classics Remade

Merry Christmas Crofts! Hope you are all enjoying this Christmas wherever you are and that you are all spending time with the people you love. :)

Today I am going to be talking about the Classics; specifically them being remade.

There has been many debates over YouTube videos, Tomb Raider forums, Deviant Art comments about whether these should be remade or not. In my opinion, it would be great to have a revival of the Classics and make more people notice them, however I really don't want Tomb Raider to become a mainstream game, especially the Classics which I hold so dearest to my heart!

Earlier this year a popular YouTube video by a channel called Unlockstar posted a video with lots of renders of the Classics but with the graphics and look of today's Tomb Raider games. If you're a follower of my tumblr you'll know I've been posting a LOT of pictures of some great renders I found. ;)

Since then the channel has made 3 of these videos showcasing lots of the different renders and they look stunning! My favorite is set as my desktop background!

Since Crystal Dynamics has already made a remake of TR1, the renders consist of TR2 to AOD. I highly recomend checking some of these videos out, by the way!

Recently I have been checking Facebook around the Tomb Raider community and found an event created by a Tomb Raider fan to get Crystal Dynamics to remaster the Classics in HD and provide DLC (downloadable content) for them. This would include Unfinished Business, Golden Mask and Lost Artifact (Tomb Raider gold games) to be available for download, also in HD. At the moment there are 154 people "going" including myself. Link to event here.

So what are your thoughts on this? Should they be remade?

See you soon Crofts and Merry Christmas! :D

Week of Tomb Raider and Survivor Trailer

Hello Crofts!

You've been warned! ;)

Today's blog post will be about IGN's week of Tomb Raider where they showcased lots of new elements about the game and the new Survivor trailer.

Survivor trailer

The new trailer showcases lots more gameplay from the newest Tomb Raider and also recycled gameplay from this years E3 videos to keep things fresh. I have replayed this trailer about 100 times because I love it so much! Especially the music. The trailer was shown first at the VGA's with Jason Graves, composer for Tomb Raider, and lots of other composers playing the music for the game which brought a much more epic style to the trailer. I LOVE it! :D

IGN's Week of Tomb Raider

Monday livestream

Monday started off with a long, 90 minute livestream starting from the end of the already show gameplay from Eurogamer. From when Lara had her first kill to the scavengers, till sending a distress signal up a transmitting tower. There were a few technical difficulties at the beginning  but other than that a great livestream. They played Tomb Raider for about an hour and then answered some questions via the live audience and twitter. If only I could have been there! XD

Tuesday Survival rewind trailer

Tuesday had a rewind trailer, telling you about some of the different things in the background and gameplay the corresponding with the story and everything else. They did the same for the Crossroads trailer. If some parts in the trailer were unsure to you though, then I would watch this trailer, but for me it's the worst day, in my opinion.

Wednesday The Tombs of Tomb Raider

FINALLY!! I'm sure lots of Tomb Raider fans were waiting for this moment. We all want to see if the new Tomb Raider will actually have tombs in it. And yes, it does! There are tombs that are part of the story that you have to go through, but also challenge tombs that reward you with relics, maps, documents and experience points. Much like the side tombs in Guardian of Light. We aren't shown how to solve one of the challenge tombs but we are sure it will have lots of challenging puzzles in there for us, including features where we need to upgrade equipment in order to continue. So don't worry, the new Tomb Raider won't just be caves and forest. :)

Thursday Upgrading Lara Croft

This shows us the base camp system, how we upgrade Lara, her abilities  equipment, experience and more. There are several base camps around the island and we are able to go back and visit them using the "fast travel" system. Going back to base camps allows us to explore elements in the environment and hunt for salvage, experience and relics.

Friday Guide to survival

The last day for IGN's week of Tomb Raider showcases a survival guide. The first episode in a mini series tells us about the Smart Resourceful Lara and a brief telling of the base camp system and elements and puzzles.

Soon episode 2 will be released, as will episode 4 of the Final Hours of Tomb Raider, so you may want to be checking both IGN and Tomb Raiders YouTube channels for when they are released. At first I wasn't so sure about this new re-imagining of the Tomb Raider games, but this week has really got me hooked. I really recommend you check out this week of Tomb Raider and most importantly the Survivor trailer.

Farewell Crofts! :)

Taking Screenshots

How are we today Crofts? All well I hope! :)

Some of you may know, recently I made yet another website (is this the 3rd one now?) all about my Tomb Raider story and some screenshots I'm taking. Though there isn't anything about my Tomb Raider story on it yet I have published on this site over 1,000 screenshots! These are from popular TRLE level set Mists of Avalon (review on here and video form coming soon!) and you can enter the screenshots by level. Some levels only have 40 screens, others have 200.

Seeing as I'm doing this, I thought I would make a blog post about taking screenshots in general. Hope you like this mini-tutorial. :)

I take my screenshots using a program called Fraps. I use this to record gameplay and recently discovered you can take screenshots with it too! When I'm taking them I open Fraps up and set the "Folder to save screenshots in" under the screenshots tab to the folder where I keep my screenshots. I order the folder by level to make it easier, but you can have it loose in the folder like I started off with.

Then, I set the screenshots hot key to "s" for screenshots and open my game. Sometimes it messes up the game if you have the game open first before Fraps. I open the game and start to take screenshots at lots of different places. When Lara is walking, running, when there is a cool camera angle I like - so quite a lot.

Scenery screenshot
Cutscene screenshot

I specifically take 4 different kinds of screenshots:
Lara partially in shot
Lara fully in shot

Here is how to take these screens:

Scenery screenshot - Stand up against a wall with Lara facing what you want to take the screenshot of. Press and hold the look button and Lara will not be in shot so you can take the screen.

Cutscene screenshot - Pretty simple, during the cutscene, take the screenshot.

Lara Partially in shot - Do the same as scenery screenshot, except walk 1 or 2 steps forward and press and hold the look button. This will make Lara in shot partially but also taking a good screen of the scenery - my favorite type of screenshot. :)

Lara fully in shot - Just take a screenshot when Lara is fully in shot (default camera angle).

Hope this helped you if you want to take screenshots. Straight forward and fun! For me at least. :)

See you soon Crofts!

Survival Edition and Collectors Edition revealed!

Hello Crofts!

I thought I would write a quick blog post about the revealed Survival and Collectors edition of Tomb Raider!   I checked tumblr this evening to find lost of people rebloging and sharing the just revealed editions for the new Tomb Raider game. I thought it might be leaked and didn't want to give away unofficial news, but it's on the official Tomb Raider website and blog and I couldn't be more excited! :D

Here is the Survival Edition and Collectors Editions:

How amazing do they look? :D

These are the ones from Europe so they are slightly different from the ones in North America. Diferneces are the small pouch (far left) is replaced by 3 iron-on badges. I think I'm happy with my small pouch for my USB sticks or something when I pre-order it. :)

The Collectors Edition includes the following:

  • The game
  • 4" by 6" survival pouch
  • Weapon pack DLC (Downloadable content)
  • 10 track score
  • 8" Lara Croft figurine (amazing! :D)
  • Double-sided island map and poster
  • Survival tin
  • The Art of Tomb Raider 4.5" by 7.5" booklet
As for the Survival Edition, it includes:

  • The game
  • 4" by 6" survival pouch
  • Weapon pack DLC (Downloadable content)
  • 10 track score
  • Double-sided island map and poster
  • The Art of Tomb Raider 4.5" by 7.5" booklet
  • Exclusive Survival Edition packaging
So, what do you guys think? They look amazing to me, especially the Lara figurine and Survial tin. They would make an excellent edition to my collection. Please, feel free to tell me your thoughts on it and if you will be pre-ordering these fantastic editions. :)

Tomb Raider Memories now begins!

In my last post I mentioned I was writing my own Tomb Raider fan story called "Tomb Raider Memories . I have now began writing it and since my last post I have announced the name of the story. It will be called "Tomb Raider Memories - Releasing the Shadows". I have decided to make a page on the story on my blog (it will only include a short passage from the story so you can read it yourself once it is finished) and I will release the story as a PDF for download once it is finished, though I have my fingers crossed I can get a physical copy of it (really doubting that! :D).

I have already written the prologue and part of the first chapter, but I am not revealing anything yet. You may want to keep your eye on the Tomb Raider Memories page on my blog or the official Facebook page if you want updates as I will be most likely to post things there.

I really hope you enjoy my story and I will let you know if there is anything to important to mention in a Facebook post. :)

Extra Life, New cover and Tomb Raider Memories!

Welcome Crofts! Sorry for the lack of posts lately, been a bit busy with school and doing charity livestreams at the weekend to help hospitalized children.........wait what?

I'll soon be posting an announcement video about my very fun weekend where we did a livestream supporting the Team Tomb Raider Community to help our host StellaLune to raise lots of money on our part of the campaign for Extra Life to reach above and beyond our goals. We raised over $1000! It was great to interact with the community, especially the Let's Players and Stella herself! :D

In other news, the cover for the new Tomb Raider game has been released and I think it looks amazing! It really tells what the new Tomb Raider is about; rather than Lara Croft finding artifacts and solving puzzles and solutions  it shows her becoming a survivor and trying to survive in these mysterious shores and forests. Yes I got all of that from the cover...................not from the E3 interviews........

In other-other news, I have started to write my own fanfiction after being inspired by the amazing and gifted writer Katie Fleming. I have always had ideas about things that might have happened after the games and what might have happened otherwise, and I have always liked writing stories. English has always been my favorite subject at school. Also, my good school friend Amy Vincent has published 3 books on her Portal fanfiction called "Aperture Chaos" and I'm quite jealous. :) I'm calling it "Tomb Raider Memories". Creative right?

Please let me know what you think and I promise to make more blog posts in the future, I've just been a little busy with homework and exams and helping children. :)

See you soon Crofts! :)

Keep Calm Tomb Raider Posters

Very talented and a hard working icon in the Tomb Raider community, Katie Fleming has created a new section on her website where she has created her own "Keep Calm Tomb Raider Posters". A few days ago, she uploaded a video to her Tomb Raider vlog channel on YouTube telling us a brief history of the popular "Keep Calm and Carry On" posters and why she decided to make them. I thought that these were a fantastic idea and had only seen one quite like it before. I think my favourite one would have to be "Keep Calm and Lock Winston In The Freezer". She said herself that we can all relate to this one!

If you would like to print them out yourself and hang them on a frame or whatever then you can visit a link  I will leave at the bottom of the page and it will take you to the posters she has made at the moment. Quite a while ago I shared on Google+ another one that I had found that looked like this:

I am now so interested in the idea of the "Keep Calm" posters that I am going to try to make my own. I did try making one in the past a while ago put it didn't go so well. To avoid huge embarrassed  I will just show you one of the posters I made using the "Keep Calm o matic" I found yesterday. It lets you fully customize you're own poster and it is really fun to look around in the gallery and find what other people have made. This is one I made yesterday.

I really love Katie's creativity and effort into these posters and I highly recommend you print them out. I am starting a "Tomb Raider wall" collection where I will collect pictures and posters and put them together by my desk in my bedroom and these posters will be PERFECT there! Thanks again Katie!

Speaking of Katie Fleming, she is also hosting another silent auction on her website called "An Evening at the Louvre". I have already spied a few things I would love to add to my collection. If you would like to expand your Tomb Raider collection then go have a peek at her new silent auction as well! :)

LP's coming soon!

I have been persuaded and inspired by a number of YouTubers and gamers to start LPing which if you don't know stands for Let's Playing. I know a lot of people are already doing it but I would like to get into the gaming community more, especially for the Tomb Raiders. My online name for over a year has been "iJayzon" and my new channel is called "iJayzonGames". I was originally going to do Tomb Raider vlogs like Katie Fleming, but I think that doing Let's Plays will be easier and more fun for me. Around the middle of October I shall make an introduction video and introduce the games I will be playing. Obviously Tomb Raider and some TRLE games that I recommend, but I would also like some suggestions for games. I don't want to play Call of Duty or any game that is mindlessly killing people because they are really boring for me. I prefer games that have a good story line, with the right mix of action and adventure and puzzle solving. Tomb Raider is my perfect game! I will also want to play games like Portal as my friends say that it is really great. I may even toss in the strange unrelated game like Fa├žade which can be hilarious to play! :)

Thanks for reading and I hope you check out my channel! :D

TRLE Reviews: The Serpent Gemstone

Welcome to a new feature I am hosting on my blog. I will be reviewing lots of TRLE levels that I come across as well as going in depth in a video review that I am planning to do towards the end of the year. I did previously have a page for my TRLE reviews but I have decided to delete it and make it a series instead! OK! Let's get started! :)

The Serpent Gemstone by God Horus

The Serpent Gemstone was the very first TRLE level I downloaded. I was amazed to find such detail in these five levels. I had hours of fun trying to figure out the tricky traps and getting lost in Croft Manor. It really made me feel like I was replaying the Core Design games again. Not only has God Horus provided amazing gameplay but has also introduced a sequel (The Croft Curse) about one of the mercenaries that Lara tried to kill

Plot - After training in Lara's tomb-like training course underneath the Manor, she travels to Peru in search of the Serpent Gemstone. Bats, wolves and spiders try to defend the tomb but are no match for Lara. Once she acquires the gemstone she must escape from the evil Jade and her mercenaries that ambush her on the way out. After dealing with them Lara hops in her Jeep and drives off. Another artefact recovered for her collection!

  • Croft Manor
  • Egyptian Training Area
  • The Mountain Caves
  • City of Vilcabamba

Angel of Darkness Sequel

My personal favourite storyline in the Tomb Raider series will be Angel of Darkness for quite a while. The characters, the murder, the mystery, everything about it I love. In the past I have tried to write a sequel to the game but have never done it. After watching Katie Fleming's recent debate on Crystal Dynamics finishing the Angel of Darkness story before making Legend, it got me into reading what other fans thought of the game and the possible sequel. Many thought that Angel of Darkness was an amazing story and wished that the writer could have published a sequel, but others think that "It needs to be forgotten".

The ending to the Angel of Darkness was quite unclear when I first watched it, but after a few replays I discorvered that when Lara is pulled accross room by Kurtis' Chirugai, it could be Kurtis in the darkness that Lara promptly smiles to. She then walks over to the darkness and the cutscene ends. Many fans belive that Kurtis is the only one who can control his weapon as he is part of the Lux Veritatis. Perhaps this means that other members of the ancient order also have their own weapon similar to Kurtis' that they can control.

What do you think about the ending to Angel of Darkness? Even without the explained answers I think the final cinematic shows a great end to the Angel of Darkness and to Core Design's Lara Croft. I hope a great sequel is one day made for fans to enjoy. I do know though that some fans are creating a TRLE sequel so I'm looking forward to that! :)

Tomb Raider Trading Cards

Official Tomb Raider cards
released around 1999
Cards I made when I was younger
I have a big chest of drawers full of stuff that I have kept over the years like old drawings and school work and whilst I was going through it I found some old Tomb Raider cards that I made when I was seven. They were pretty good considering my knowledge of Tomb Raider isn't as big as it is now. I only made five or six, however it did remind me of some official Tomb Raider cards that were released around 1999. About a year   or two ago I found a shop that were selling these and of course didn't hesitate to buy them and they are pretty cool.

Finding these brought back so many old memories from when I was younger. I started to think about old trading cards that I have collected over the years like Pokemon cards, Doctor Who cards and so I wanted to make a small project from now until whenever. I would like to start my own little Tomb Raider trading card game. I just want to make a few cards for myself, but I'll see how it goes. I may in the future put up  page explaining what I'm planning for it and how it will all work.

For anybody that is interested this is what the back of the cards will look like showing Lara, the logo and my blog name. I hope you will find this interesting as I am really hoping it will all work out fine. :)

TR4 glitch

With each slot being filled as I go on through the game.
I encountered a glitch when I was playing Tomb Raider 4. I was at the bit where you have to collect the Northern, Eastern, Western and Southern shaft keys in order to gain access to the Temple of Horus level. I had only picked up three of the shaft keys and hadn't realised I forgot to find the fourth until I had to place them in The Great Pyramid. When I save in the Tomb Raider games I tend to save in each slot so it would look like this normally:

Because of this, it meant that I couldn't return to the level where you have to pick up the remaining shaft key because I had saved over that save. I know, I'm stupid. In order to continue the game I would have to forget about placing the shaft keys in The Great Pyramid and use the level skip cheat to get to the Temple of Horus. When I entered I just wanted to do a quick inventory check and noticed this:

It turns out that if you don't use some items in your inventory and skip the level that you have to use them in, the game glitches and your items become Lara's shorts. This happened to all three of the shaft keys. I encountered a similar glitch in Tomb Raider 5 where if you don't use stones in the Rome levels and skip the cutscene where she places them into the gate, the game glitches and turns your item into Lara's shorts. Such fun! :)

I hope you like my blog as if I encounter more strange bugs and glitches like this I would be more than happy to publish them. I have set up two pages to accompany the Home page tab. These are "Lara's biography" (the Core Design one(I may do a Crystal Dynamics one as well)) and a "TRLE page" where I will display screenshots and information about my favourite TRLE levels that I find. If you like then please comment telling me a TRLE level you would like me to play. :)

New blog!

Hello all! My name is Jason Scott and welcome to my Tomb Raider blog! Here I shall be sharing news from the games including released screenshots, gameplay and other news. Hopefully you will like it as I will hope to put a lot of effort into this! I have been a fan of the Tomb Raider games since a very young age and would love to interact more with the Tomb Raider community and I think this blog will help me. I already have some ideas for competitions or debates that I would be happy to share on my blog and talk a lot more with fellow tomb raider fans like myself. I hope you find it interesting. :)
